Why can't we get high school baseball parents to act like college baseball parents?

As an experienced college and high school baseball umpire working 40+ games in April and May, I see all kinds of behavior both on and off the field. Nothing mystifies me more than parents of high school baseball players acting like they are still in grade school! Yelling at coaches, yelling at umpires and acting like they do not get out much. These behaviorally challenged know-it alls have no clue as to what is appropriate at a high school athletic contest.

During most college baseball games I work, parents sit and actually watch and appreciate the games using appropriate behavior. Maybe it has to do with the fact that they do not see their son on a regular basis, do not want other players and parents to think they are idiots, or they are worried that their male offspring won't like them anymore!

In any case let's bottle this and make parents of high school baseball players drink from the fountain of maturity.
